Athens 2016: Street Observations
Photographs taken in Athens during the winter of 2016/2017. The weather was cold and overcast. Snow had fallen in the surrounding mountains, while the city itself remained damp and grey.
Greece was described as entering a period of stabilization after years of economic collapse. From the outside, there were signs of adjustment. From the street, however, the atmosphere felt more complex.
Moving through the city, the experience was shaped by observation rather than belonging. The camera remained attentive to ordinary activity: people waiting, walking, smoking, talking, standing still. No events are depicted. The work does not attempt to explain the crisis or its consequences. Instead, it records how Athens appeared during that period, how public space was used, how movement unfolded, and how the city presented itself under ongoing economic pressure.
